"It's a dirty job, but someone has to do it." ~ Mike Rowe
This job is not a difficult one, but it is labor intensive. You will be on your feet for the majority of the shift as you clean enclosures, handle the animals, and walk from one area to the next.
We have POOP! All kinds of poop. Little poop. Big poop. Hard poop. Wet poop. Unscented poop. Foul poop. Just a whole lot of poop and it ALL has to be removed from the animal enclosures and properly disposed of.
You will get dirty, sweaty during the summer months, and cold during the winter months. You will be licked, kicked, scratched, spit on, and possibly even bitten at some point during your employment with WLC, but its to be expected with animals.
You may help a goat/sheep give birth or bottle feed one of our baby animals. You will get hay in your hair and something unknown on the sole of your shoe. Those steps you keep track of will be completed in the first hour of your shift.
The most rewarding part of this job are the animals, all of them. Once you have completed all of the day's work, you can hang out with the animals. The more interaction you have with the animals, the more adapt they are with being handled. Many of our animals are used in our petting zoos, education programs, and even in the film industry.
So, who is the best applicant for this job? First and foremost, you have to be dedicated, dependable, reliable, trustworthy, driven, self-motivated, and capable of working with little/no supervision. We need people who are always ready for a challenge and can think outside the box when an obstacle is encountered. Our animals respond well to those who have positive attitudes, determination, and those who persevere through difficult situations. We want people who will consider each and every on of our animal residents "family" and treat them with the utmost respect and consideration. We want our employees to be kind and loving to each animal. This isn't "just a job" it is a lifestyle and an amazing experience.
If you are looking for "easy" money, this is NOT the job for you. If you are looking for a job that may be dirty, sweaty and physically demanding but has great "customers", this is the job for you. Please complete and submit your job application, we look forward to hearing more about you!
